With the much delayed launch of Microsoft’s Windows Vista comes a whole range of new expansion initiatives across China, including the anticipated release of the Xbox 360 console.
China is a huge and ever-growing gaming market but it’s still not sure when exactly the Xbox 360 launch would be. The government is still drawing up a new policy to cover the game console sector.
Microsoft has already set up a new games development centre in Chengdu and is keen to partner with local games developers to create products for both the domestic and international markets.
China’s game market (according to San Francisco-based market intelligence firm Pearl Research):
- Including online, packaged PC and video games – will be worth more than US$1.3 billion by next year.
- Multi-player, online role-playing games constitute China’s largest online gaming segment.
- Top multi-player, online role-playing games can each generate US$80 million in revenue annually.
